More often than not,
people delay replacing damaged radiators
due to the costs involved. However, there are times when replacements
can turn out to be cheaper than repairs in the long run.
That concept holds true
for car radiators. You can get by on many occasions with a simple
repair, but if the radiator already needs frequent maintenance,
you’re better off investing in a new radiator as the cost of
repairs can add up very fast.
If you notice that your radiator
suffers from any of the following conditions, you should consider
buying a new radiator:
Interior Rust
Rust, a common problem
for metal radiators, can easily be remedied. However, when rust forms
inside a radiator, it becomes much more difficult to remove.
Since the corrosion is occurring from within, it is best to replace
the radiator ASAP.
Pinholes and Cracks
Pinholes and cracks on a
radiator greatly diminish its ability to disperse heat. Although you
can seal pinholes and cracks, more cracks and pinholes are bound to
appear. As such, you should begin looking for a replacement radiator
soon.
Discontinued Model
As many vintage car
owners would know, it is extremely difficult to find parts for a car
model that has been discontinued. You might want to consider
purchasing an extra radiator to save yourself the trouble of hunting
for one in the future.
